Several girls in our 180 group have discovered the importance of spending time alone with God and becoming doers of what He teaches them. They want to offer an opportunity to any girl that wants to join in, to log onto this site each day and learn with them.

Ever wondered what to read in the Bible? Or better yet, what something in the Bible means?
Well join us each day, right here, and we will walk through God's Word together:)

Day #58

Note:  Please forgive me for no Bible Study yesterday.  I have provided yesterdays and todays this morning.  So please study Day 57 first and Day 58 second:D

Thank you God, for showing us what is eternal and how to live for it.

Please read James 4:13-17.

For the past few lessons we have been learning about this passage and the arguments that James presents for not living a Christ-centered life… a life where Christ is the focus and we are not.

James’ four arguments.
1.    The complexity of life (v. 13)
2.    The uncertainty of life (v. 14a)
3.    The brevity of life (v. 14b)
4.    The frailty of man (v. 16)

I encourage you to click on Day 56 and Day 57 to get an understanding of the 1st and 2nd arguments.  Today we will move into the 3rd one.

Please read James 4:14 once more.  Write it down in your journal because we really need to understand this.

According to verse 14, what is life compared to?

Have you ever made a box of macaroni and cheese?  When your water starts boiling, what is rises from the pot?  This is the very thing that James is telling us life is like.  It is a mist, a vapor.  What happens to the steam once it rises?  It disappears.  It doesn’t even last but a split second and it’s gone.

Life seems long, but when compared to all eternity it is very brief.

Descriptions of life being brief are all throughout scripture.  I have a few below.  Please read the following verses and write them down.

“My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle…” (Job 7:6)
“The cloud fades and vanishes…” (Job 7:9)
“… for our days on earth are a shadow.” (Job 8:9)
“My days are swifter than a runner…” (Job 9:25)
“They pass like swift ships, like an eagle swooping on its prey” (Job 9:26)
“Man who is born of a woman is of a few days and full of trouble.  He comes out like a flower and withers.  He flees like a shadow and continues not.”  Job 14:1-2

As humans, we count our YEARS at each birthday.  But God says we are to number our DAYS (click Psalm 90:12).  After all, don’t we live a day at the time?  And as you get older, don’t you notice how they go by more quickly?

Are you getting how brief life is?  We should no longer “spend our lives” or “waste our lives” doing useless/mindless things.  We should invest our lives in what is eternal, because this life will be gone soon… like a vapor.

How do I invest in eternal things?  How do I know what things will last?  You will know by reading God’s Word each day, talking with Him, and being obedient to what you are learning from Him.  Will you fail from time to time?  Yes!  Is he bigger than your failure?  Yes!  So don’t give up!

TARGET of the DAY
The Bible is chock full of God’s revealed will for our lives, and we tend to ignore it.  Number one on the list is sharing Christ with others!!
Please read Joshua 1:8-9 and Psalm 1:1-3.  Speak to Him today about these things and ask for what you need.  He will supply in abundance, so much that you are overflowing with His wisdom.  Now go in humility and courage and live this out in joy:D
