Good morning God! Thank you for this day! Please help me to love those you have placed
around me. Please help me to love them
with my words, sound in my voice, and my body language. But, most of all, please help me to share my
love for you with them. I want to be a
light for You.
Please read James
4:13-17.
Two days ago we started learning about this passage and the
arguments that James presents for not living a Christ-centered life… a life
where Christ is center-stage and you are the stage-hand.
There were four arguments.
1.
The complexity of
life (v. 13)
2.
The uncertainty
of life (v. 14a)
3.
The brevity of
life (v. 14b)
4.
The frailty of
man (v. 16)
I encourage you to look at the last lesson to
get an understanding of the first argument.
Today we will move into the 2nd one.
Please read James
4:14 once more.
Write it down in your journal because we really need to understand this.
According to verse 14, what do these men NOT know? The wording here suggests that the business
men have a lot of self-confidence. They
clearly have the idea that they control the events in their
lives. They are failing to see God’s
sovereignty over all things.
Sovereignty (definition) – supreme power and authority.
God control’s ALL things… ALL THINGS! Planning and dreams are not wrong, but arrogant
self-confidence and boasting are. We cannot
even see ahead into one day. It is God who orchestrates
it all.
Please read Proverbs
27:1.
What does this verse tell us?
There is an amazing story in the Bible about a farmer who had an arrogant
self-confidence and a boastful attitude.
Take a look at the story… (click Luke
12:16-21). Write
the answers in your journal.
What did the farmer have?
What actions did he take?
What was taken?
Life is not uncertain to God, but it is uncertain to us. When we have Christ as our Savior
and our Lord, it is then and only then, that we will be where we should
be. In this way we can be confident
about tomorrow and whatever it brings, because we know He is leading.
TARGET of
the DAY
Do you know
what it is to have Christ as Savior? If
not please, please read the tab on the side, “What is salvation?” Do you know what it is to have Christ as
Lord? This is where you live your life
with Him at the center of it. You do
this by focusing on getting to know Him through daily Bible study and prayer.
Prayer is simply talking to Him, but most importantly listening.
Only through spending time with Him daily, will you then become
obedient… a doer of the very WORD you are learning.
Many of us
have Christ as Savior… but it is He
Lord?
Ask Him today
to reveal any impurities in your heart.
Love Him by
humbling yourself and following Him as Lord.
