Thanks to Makinley, Alyssa, and Amelia for following through with the TARGET yesterday:) Still looking forward to pictures of you storing up the memory verse this week!
Favoritism= the practice of unfairly giving better treatment to one person over another.
Discrimination= the unjust treatment of different categories of people or things, esp. on the grounds of race, age, or gender (boy/girl).
Partiality= an unfair favor of one thing or person over another; favoritism.
For the past two days we have
learned from James 2:8-11. If we show any favoritism, discrimination, or
partiality… we are guilty of breaking the whole law of God. Yikes!
PRAY: Have you
taken the time to pray and ask God where you show the 3 above characteristics? I challenge you to do it and let Him make you
uncomfortable. This is what brings change, healing, AND peace in your heart.
Read James
2:12
Have you ever had uneasiness? LOL, let me
back up…do you know what it means to be uneasy?
Uneasiness is when you are
unsettled over something; something is plaguing your heart like a disease; you
can’t seem to shake a certain sickening feeling you have.
I, personally, have had uneasiness over 2 kinds of situations…
1.
When I know
someone is being mistreated or abused.
2.
When I know I
have done something that grieves the heart of God.
These two situations SHOULD produce
uneasiness in the heart of a believer!
Uneasiness nags at
you, irritates you, breaks you, rubs you raw, until you finally come clean and do
things God’s way.
There is hope, though, in uneasiness.
It causes the following to
take place…
Uneasiness Uneasiness
over someone else’s hurt over my own sin
-I get on my knees for this -I get on my knees in
person, which strangely brokenness
over my
gets my mind off of myself. own sin.
-I realize this person needs -I realize I NEED God
every
God and I begin to make day
and I will fail miserably
myself available to show them without
Him.
His love.
-I finally have the true -I finally have
the true
freedom to do what pleases freedom
to do what
Him; to obey Him. pleases Him; to
obey Him.
Read James 2:12 once
more and write the “in simple terms” statement below in your journal.
In simple terms… when I speak and act in ways that please God… it is
then, and only then, that I have true peace and freedom. Can I speak and act in ways that please God
apart from spending time with Him?
NO!!!! Being a “good person” only
takes me so far- like continuing to drive with a gas tank on empty. Only spending time with God daily will
produce the fruit just mentioned. We
must be talking with God, reading God’s Word, and being a doer of God’s Word.
CONFESSION: Usually it is my mouth that gets me into an uneasy state of
mind. When I talk too much, I don’t have
peace in my heart at all. I am plagued
with thoughts of trying to cover up my foolishness. I also become defensive. I might even begin to talk more and end up
digging a grave for myself. Eventually I
will want to withdraw from people and hide.
Why? Because I am feeling
tremendous guilt! I wonder if I will be
caught for the gossip that I began and if people will ever respect me
again. Very sickening!!
Why is this all so important,
you may ask. The reason we are learning
the above is because of the second part of James 2:12. Each believer will be judged according to
their works, pleasing or displeasing, before God one day. Tomorrow we will learn about this judgement. Take heart friend… there is hope in Jesus
Christ:)
TARGET of the DAY
Today, begin asking God to
make you uncomfortable with your sin.
Ask Him to take you into an area in your life that is not under His
authority. Ask Him to break you. This is tough, no doubt, but God our Father will
never have intentions to leave us in the condition we are in. He wants us to know His true peace and
freedom. Take heart, God is good and faithful!
He loves you more than anyone.
