Begin this time talking with God.
Please read James 2:8-11
Please keep in mind from last
week’s lessons, these verses typically deal with the distinction between rich
and poor people. But, still let’s take
it a step further, as on Day #22, into other situations where we make
distinctions…
Rich/poor
smart/challenged
popular/nobody
athlete/band
outgoing/introverts
aggressive/shy
successful/failure
younger/older
broken home/mom and dad still married

Favoritism=
the practice of unfairly giving better treatment to one person over another.
Discrimination= the unjust treatment of different categories of people or things,
esp. on the grounds of race, age, or gender (boy/girl).
Partiality=
an unfair favor of one thing or person over another; favoritism.
What is against God’s law?
Favoritism, discrimination, and partiality are
against God’s law.
Choosing anyone “with” over
someone “without” is FAVORITISM, DISCRIMINATION, and PARTIALITY! End of story.
Is there a place for it in God’s Kingdom… NO!
NOTE: Please use
the Bible Gateway tab to the side to read some other versions of the following verses
to get a better understanding. New
International Reader Version (NIRV) and New Living Translation (NLT) are great!
1.
Read Leviticus 19:17-18.
This
section of verses deals with a reason why someone may show favoritism,
discrimination, or partiality. What is
happening here?
Sometimes
there has been a wrong done to you and therefore anger and hate are involved in
why you would resort to choosing favorites.
What does the writer of Leviticus
19:17-18 tell us we should do and not
do in this situation? Write it in your journal.
2.
Read Matthew 22:36-39. Someone here is asking Jesus what the first
and greatest commandment of God is. What
does Jesus say? WRITE IT IN YOUR
JOURNAL.
3.
Read Romans 13:8-10. In dealing with the 10 Commandments, what one
command of God can we do that will keep us obeying all the other commands of
God at the same time? WRITE IT IN YOUR
JOURNAL.
Do you see a pattern
here? This is your memory verse for the
week. Begin now storing it in your
heart. Don’t know what I am talking
about?
Ideas for storing up God’s Word…
1.
Read it over and
over
2.
Read it aloud
3.
Make copies of it
and put in places you will see it (mirror, in front of toilet, on dash of car,
etc.)
4.
Write it on your
hand
5.
Be a doer
6.
Etc.
TARGET of the DAY
How can you be a doer of this verse, you may ask?
Look at your side tabs...
DON'T FORGET YOUR MEMORY VERSE!
DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE A PRAISE!
Failure: I got annoyed last week with someone on the Mission Trip to Arlington. I showed it in my face, in my voice, and my actions, for sure. I had to got back and apologize and ask forgiveness. Notice that I said two things there? They said it was okay. I had to admit to them that it was not okay in God's eyes... but that I was truly sorry and would they forgive me... they said yes.
ReplyDeleteSuccess: I was able to be used yesterday to encourage someone in their walk with God. They had to make a tough decision one whether they were going to love someone as they love themselves. They chose obediently love God and someone else that was hard to love!!! YAY!!
