Several girls in our 180 group have discovered the importance of spending time alone with God and becoming doers of what He teaches them. They want to offer an opportunity to any girl that wants to join in, to log onto this site each day and learn with them.

Ever wondered what to read in the Bible? Or better yet, what something in the Bible means?
Well join us each day, right here, and we will walk through God's Word together:)

Day #11

What does Colossians 5:8 tell us to put off?
        Anger
        Wrath
Malice
Slander
Obscene talk

Still remaining with our Bible study from Day #9… we will begin to focus on our broken relationships (mainly at church).

WAIT!!!!  Some of you may be dismissing this already.  I know this will be tough, but you must face this!!  You are a young lady that Christ died for.

This will be hard to hear, but... much of the hurt in your life stems from making someone or something an idol.

IDOL= anything that consumes your thinking and actions to the point that it becomes a god.  YOU DON’T ACKNOWLEDGE THE LIVING GOD OF THE BIBLE AND HIS STANDARDS.  You even make sacrifices to this idol.

Many Bible stories include situations where people fashioned images out of precious metals and bowed to worship them regularly. Many of these people were enemies of THE ONE TRUE LIVING GOD.  But, there were also many that were Christ followers and they too resorted to IDOL worship.  They did this to get something they wanted or needed and felt that THE ONE TRUE LIVING GOD was not listening.  They would even make sacrifices to this idol to please it… first born children, animals, etc.

There is a problem among many young ladies at our church.  It is not right, and it is not pleasing to God.  This problem has become like a disease… a cancer.  It is the issue of jealousy and coveting.

Here are 2 primary real life examples:
1.   Loneliness and wanting to be a part of a group… to fit in… to the point that you will turn from God and His standards to feed that need for companionship.
2.   Wanting a dating relationship so much that you again, turn from God and His standards to feed that need… this really tends to hurt when that dating relationship ends and you feel empty and betrayed.

I pray that God is getting your attention.  Look back to the definition of an IDOL from above.  Write it down.  When something consumes your thinking and your actions to the point that it becomes an idol, you will see some of these “clothes” in your closet…

Anger (being strongly annoyed or hostile)
Wrath (extreme anger)
Malice (a desire to do something wrong to hurt or annoy; enjoying watching someone hurt because you think they deserve it.
Slander (telling a lie to ruin someone else’s reputation)
Obscene talk (cursing or dirty joking)

You may also need to remove the first 5 things we learned to put out of our closet in Colossians 3:5...

Sexual activity outside of marriage
Sexual immorality
Sexual impurity
Passion
Evil desire
Covetousness (wanting what is not yours)
**Remember that God's standards are so high that the 5 just mentioned in thought, are the same as if you had acted them out.

To battle this, you and I will have to take physical action to remove these clothes from our closet!!  How??

Watchfulness over sin, be aware of your issue
Prayer (talk to God everywhere you go) Deuteronomy 6:7-9
Reading God’s Word (the Bible) daily
Obeying God’s Word, NOT JUST THE THINGS THAT ARE EASY and COMFORTABLE!

We will discuss tomorrow how you make sacrifices to idols sometimes.

Click on the MEMORY VERSES tab above and test yourself on last week’s memory verse. Make some copies of the newest memory verse and the oldest one.  Tape one in each place you will not miss it... in the car in front of you where you sit, on the bathroom mirror, in the kitchen where you eat, etc... the possibilities are endless.  Do you know why I am telling you to do this?  Read...Deuteronomy 6:7-9!

Click on the PRAYER REQUESTS tab above.  And continue to pray for the prayer requests listed:)

Click on the PRAISE tab above.  In this area, we need to start typing in one thing (or more) a day that we are thankful for.  Looking forward to seeing the things that you are thankful for.  This is great encouragement for all of us!!

TARGETs OF THE DAY
Pray and ask God what areas of your life you are not inviting Him in.  Ask forgiveness and turn from that sin.  Ask Him to show you how to live in a way that pleases Him.

Begin praying and asking God where you might have contributed to the brokenness.  In your notes, write these things down.  Keep in a private place, we will be using this soon.
